Just read this:

http://crackberry.com/tags/blackberry-playbook

Apparently, you can get another PlayBook even if you got one the first time around. Details are in the link.

Some people may have missed out the first time. Here's another shot.

Nice! Shame I don't really have a complete game to go on there, and Bird Blast probably won't be done by the 13th...

Thanks a lot for the head' up oneslyfox, I missed the first opportunity.

I remember a really detailed forum post about how to convert your app with FlashDevelop (as opposed to Flash Builder like their guide uses). Anyone happen to have that?

I'm not sure I'm going to have an app ready to go by then either. They gave us really short notice--ten days basically.

@GroZZleR

This is what I followed: http://www.hsharma.com/tutorials/10-easy-steps-to-package-and-sign-air-apps-for-playbook/

All you need is the SWF to start. The process seems a little daunting, but if you follow it step-by-step, it isn't so bad.

Yeah, I remember a similar process last time. It took me about 3 hours to have a build running the playbook, then about 4 hours to implement some changes to abide by their terms (no external high scores etc).

I missed out last time due to not having a mobile game complete, and could really do with a tablet to test things on, thanks for the heads up!

Am thinking of compiling a game i currently have up for auction here - do you think a blackberry app release would affect the chance of getting a sponsor for the normal web browser version ?

Nope, web version sponsors are generally only interested in the web version. Mobile versions are a completely different market and you still own the IP. It shouldn't impact your sponsorship at all - but if you want to be 100% sure just confirm it with the sponsor before accepting their bid.

just submitted one game, so lets see what happens..it took me 3-4 hours to prepare the game (to download all the necessary things, install them, signing the swf, generating certificates etc)..approval of my registration took 24 hours and they required copy of my ID..hopefully it will be rewarded by getting the free playbook :-D..

just submitted mine too - that code signing is a bit of a headache!

The vmware version of the playbook (1.08) - works alot quiker on pc than any other emulators i've ever tried ! - works diferently that the guides on FGL though, as you only have to "open" it rather than install if from an iso image

Penry, Signing is indeed a bit of a headache if you do it via command prompt! :(

If you use Flashbuilder instead, you can give your 2 CSJ files you requested to Flashbuilder, and the program will handle everything else, really easy.

i did do it all by command prompt ! - but it does help me understand what is going on! (alot more than the flashdevelop script files for android and ios builds) - and it lets me create my own scripts to make it quicker next time!

i found the info at RIM pretty vague and less than explanatory!, - the guide on FGL out of date and differing from what i was encoutering (up to sdk version 2.0.0 now, fgl guide is 0.9 ish, even the vmware stuff was very different - but i guess there's no incentive remaining for the team here to promote it atm !!!) then i came across this -> http://www.hsharma.com/tutorials/10-easy-steps-to-package-and-sign-air-apps-for-playbook/ merged the info it gave with where i wascurrently at- and things moved along smoothly (i think)

It would be so easy for them to merge the various command line scripts and programs into a "know it all" gui application which checked you had everything, and everything was present and correct, and in the right place before packaging! - but i can understand the reason why they make it deliberatly tricky, and choose to hide some info on essential parts of the process!!

any idea how long it usually takes for rim to refuse a submitted app for something i overlooked/missed ? (or approve it and amaze me :D )

I just packaged my bar and created a developer account. Not super hard except for getting FD to produce a file with swfversion 10 instead of 11 (causing an error in packaging). Then all the tedious commands to type in.

Hopefully my dev account will be approved very soon so I can upload and begin!

Last year it took them 8 days to approve my game.

I read on this site that only developers who port their android application get a free playbook?

They updated the day after saying it was applicable to everyone, not just android developers.

we are eligible for price only if our game gets approved or are we eligible after just submitting it?

I think as long as you submit the game before the dealine you get the PlayBook. I'm pretty sure my game wasn't approved til well after the deadline the first time they had this promotion. I got my PlayBook though.
